Abandoned Six Flags Amusement Park - New Orleans

Another example of urban decay, this deserted amusement park was destroyed with no plans of reopening. Originally called Jazzland, the park opened in New Orleans in 2000 and was quickly purchased by Six Flags in 2002. The park was upgraded a year later and renamed Six Flags New Orleans, with a Mardi Gras themed area and a respectable collection of rides and coasters. The park quickly became one of the top attractions in the area until nature decided otherwise.

In 2005 Hurricane Katrina not only claimed hundreds of lives, but caused billions of dollars in property loss. The wreck of this once merry place has sat deserted for almost eight years now and is currently a ghost park for urban explorers being chased by police. The land is owned by the city which tried to get Six Flags to rebuild and hold them to their lease. After all these years, nothing has been done.
